Audio Systems: what speakers to match, mark levinson, kef speakers

Question
QUESTION: Dear sir,

Hoping you can help me out,

I have been a big fan of vintage receivers my entire life but espacially Bang & Olufsen. I recently stumbled over a very good deal i could not refuse, a Beocenter 9000 for less than 300 in excellent condition, no flaws what so ever!

Link to specs: http://www.bang-olufsen.com/page.asp?id=118&ProductType=BeoCenter&ProductName=Be

Now my dilemma is to find a well matching pair of sspeakers, can be any brand, bookshelf prefered and these shoudl be priced between 200-400 usd.

Do you have any suggestions what would be a good match based on the specs of the Beocenter?

ANSWER: Your speaking to the wrong guy. I am a fan of real performance equipment of which B&O is not. I literally work with Mark Levinson. B&O equipment is in the MoMa. It is unquestionably 'Art' but not audio art in my book. Their low powered amplifiers are designed for their speakers efficiency. If you are dead set on this system then you want to get an efficient speaker. Paragdyme, Klipsh, JBL, Polk are good choices. You may want to find an older model in a close out sale on line.

QUESTION: Thanks for your input sir,

I know that Bang & olufsen is not the greatest audio wise but if you, like me live in a small apartment and even though you want to, cant play music at levels that Mark L, NAD etc can provide then a stylish thing like this will do,

Have to admit that loud party music is out of the questiosn with B&O but at low to mid levels the sound is impeccable,

I acutally stumbled over a pair of Kef IQ1, new series, not the greatest speakers but still they play excellent with my system. And the design also can follow my system.

Once again thanks

Answer
When it comes to sound, everyone hears differently. Obviously there are parameters that help draw one into the type of listening arena they are able to afford. At your price point there is nothing wrong with KEF speakers if they sound good to your ears.
