Pontiac Repair: pontiac grandprix 1990 3.1 V6, pontiac grandprix, air filter oil

Question
Car stalls out when you slow down or put in park. Wont stay at idle. Transmission is slipping or slamming in to gear. When u step on gas it has no power or losing exceleration. Could it be fuel filter or fuel pump? I changed the plugs and air filter, oil! i put slick 50 transmission treatment in today and fuel injector cleaner in gas. do you think it might be o2 senser?

Answer
sorry for the delay this question was in the "question pool" and I had to fish it out of the deep end. It was not addressed to me. first things first the transmission slipping. That is not a good thing It could be a lot of things but the longer it's slipping the worse the problem is going to get. There really isn't a lot you can do unless it's low of fluid. if it's full and it's slipping it's gonna need to be taken apart to find out the cause of the problem and do you want a big repair bill on a 18 year old car??? As for the stalling... Has the battery died on this car just before this stalling issue started? If so the engine control computer lost the idle control valve memory. as for the no power it could be a fule pump or plugged fuel filter you will have to do a fule pressure test to find out for sure. It could be the transmission slipping causing thsi as well. An O2 sensor failure on one of these older cars will not cause the stalling very un likely. good luck.
