Audio Systems: No sound from receiver on hd channels., receiver input, cable wire

Hi, i am living in a dorm room which provides free cable. i have the basic cable wire running to my tv which also has a few hd stations on it. My tv is a 37 inch insignia hdtv. My problem is that I can get all my stations to run sound out of my receiver, but none of the hd stations will. I just have the basic a/v cable from output of tv to the receiver input. i don't really know a whole lot about it, but do you know of anything i can do to get sound for those stations?

Check the cable connection carefully.

Then, check the owners manual for audio/sound with HD (some HD sets don't require special tuner for full audio and video).

If you have the cable passing through a receiver, you may want to bypass that and take the cable directly to the tv.
