Audio Systems: Denon AVR-1601/681, electrolytic capacitor, filter circuits

Question
I have a Denon receiver that was working fine then was put in storage for about 2 months. I re-hooked it up with all of the same components but now has a buzz.  If you turn the sound all the way off it stops and if you turn the sound up high enough you can drown it out.  It doesn't seem to get louder when you turn the volume up.

Answer
It is a bad electrolytic capacitor in one of the power supply filter circuits.  There are several of these and the right one must be found and replaced.

It is not a difficult job for a middle class tech, but too difficult for an inexperienced consumer; one who has no troubleshooting and soldering experience.

The cost of the replacement cap is only a few dollars; labor is more.

Hope this helps.

PS: Denon is good stuff.  This model is well worth getting fixed up.  Won't cost too much and it will sound just like new.  A few years ago I was an executive with Denon and I know the kind of engineering the do with their audio products.
