Audio Systems: Car Subwoofers and Home Theater System, car subs, car subwoofer

Question
I Have 3 12" 400 Watt Subs, and a 500 watt amp. It does the job for now. but I'm going to bye a new one, and i was wondering what you recommend, for a new amp. I was also wondering if i can hook up my Car Subs to My Home Theater System.

Answer
Car audio is not my field even though I understand the logic. A car subwoofer is designed to sound good in a limited space. Bass frequencies go down to about 40hz. A 40hz sound wave is over 20 feet long. The designer of the subwoofer must to tricks in order to make it seem like it produces those frequencies. Furthermore new music uses instruments designed to create subharmonics as low as 10hz. The only thing that a car sub can do for those frequencies is act like a shaker. Shakers just vibrate at any frequency. The end result is inaccurate reproduction of bass. If you use it for you home it will do the same. You'd be much better off with one designed to produce fairly accurate bass and that won't be a car subwoofer.
