Audio Systems: need to install a new jvc face plate in a02 mercury sable with manual temp controls, metal coat hanger, mercury sable

i know alot about car systems but i just cant get this one system out my friend has a 02 mercury sable with manual temp controls and i have tried to get it out and it just wont come out. i have stuck a tool i mad into the slots to pull the radio out but it just wont budge, do i haft to take off the molding around the radio (its woodgrain) or what do i haft to do any help would be great.   thanks McKenzie

You need the Ford or DIN radio removal tools. You can make them out of metal coat hanger rod, but the correct ones have dimpled ends to aid in releasing the radio. Most car audio shops and parts stores either stock them, or can get them for you. These guys sell the 86-5618 tool set on-line;

Remember, you will need lots of other parts to complete this, like install kit, harness adapters, antenna adapter, etc...
