Audio Systems: sony xplodes, channel power amplifier, schoshe

Question
I have just obtained two Sony Xplode 12" subwoofers from a cousin of mine, im not sure what their total output is. They already have a box with a Sony Xplode 1200W 2/1 channel power amplifier XM-2200GTX mounted on top. My car is a 88' Cabriolet Volkswagon, now these are the first subwoofers I've ever had, and i just need to know how to install them and what precautions i should take so they dont fry my car.

Answer
Mounting and installation specs for the amp are at:

http://www.xplodsony.com/files/manuals//XM-2200GTX_Mounting_Guide.pdf

You can download the specs and installation guides or the woofers by finding them on the same web area.

If the unit in the car now is the stock oem system you can find some help with wiring connections at

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/VW.html

If your unit is an aftermarket you must get an audio feed from the head unit.  You may need to purchase an adapter kit from crutchfield, schoshe, peripherals or volkswagen.

I haven't checked, but this page

http://www.installer.com/wires/

has lots of wiring kits; check it for sub connection kit for imported cars.  There are other such sites as mentioned above, from crutchfield and others.  (Even your local bestbuy or circuitcity may have what you need).

Also, Sony has a guide for installing sub systems on their web pages.  Just go to sony.com and follow links to car products and various technology pages.  Yamaha has similar pages.

So, what you must do, after reading the above and getting the idea of what you have to do, is make a list of the things you must do/obtain in order to fit and connect the system you have been lucky enough to been given.  It will make a wonderful addition to your car sound.

Best wishes,
