Audio Systems: Alpine System, alpine system, voltage gain

Question
Hi, I recently purchased an Alpine 4-Channel MRP-F450 and a pair of Alpine Type-R Compnent 6 1/2 Speakers SPR-17S. I have a single cab truck so i dynomat the doors and installed the system with the components on channels 1 and 2.  Im also using an Alpine Deck, CDE-9881.  The problem is that it doesnt get as loud as i expected it to be.  Is there tuning on the Amp that would be the best for my set up? or what do you think the best set up would be? Also, If i wanted to add a 10" Alpine Type-E sub would this be possible off the same Amp?  Thanks

Answer
Last question first: A sub should really have its own power.  In fact, a self-powered sub in a properly designed enclosure is the best bet for truck installations. BUT: you could drive the sub with one of your unused channels, but it is not an ideal solution.  ALso, putting a raw sub in the right enclosure is extremely important in order to get good bass out of it.

Your amp is a good one and can be configured for 2 or 4 channel outputing.  If you are using just two speaker systems than you can do that and get a little more power.

It should be giving you plenty of power output, so your problem may be voltage gain, not power.  Check the output of the deck/head unit and the settings of the inputs on the amp.  Some amps (I haven't checked your model specs) have a switch or link for different gain levels, or even a screwdriver adjustment for input level.  So, check that out.  Since your head unit is Alpine and the amp is Alpine they should be compatible for total gain requirements.  So, check out the suggestions above and see if you can't get the gain up.

Good Luck,
c
