Audio Systems: Isuzu factory radio, laser diode, optical pickup

2000 Isuzu radio. I have a 6 disk changer. It shows err 1 when I try to play disc. What does it mean and how do I fix it?

First, do a reset.  To do this, you must remove all power from the unit.  Easiest way is to pull the 12 cable off the battery terminal  (Make sure you have the security codes for the radio unit so you can turn it back on - if it has the anti-theft feature).

If the reset does not solve the problem you will need to replace the laser diode inside the optical pickup.  This is usually done by replacing the entire optical pickup.  The cost is almost always greater than buying a new cd player unit.

The best place to find a unit that will fit your car is at crutchfield.com If you purchase the unit from them, it will come with installation and wiring adaptor.  But, you can purchase a unit anywhere you can find one that is compatible with your car.
