Audio Systems: bass amp, rockford fosgate p4002, 323i bmw

Question
QUESTION: Hi, i have a 323i bmw i left the stock speakers in but i added 2 12" orions but they do not hit i have tried many amps , my radio only has one RCA jack and i have two amps so is this the reason that i do not get any bass because the signal is split? or can you recommend a amp that will push these 400 watt orions, under $400.00 ??? thanks
ANSWER: there are 2 main reasons your subs may just not be putting out.  one is that they are "out of phase"  if one sub is pushing while the other is pulling and vice versa they will cancel eachother out and basically sound like almost nothing.  you should check and make sure that BOTH subs positives and negatives are wired properly to be "in phase" .  depending on the ohms of your subs and the voice coils and the amp you're using this may be hard to determine so if you want help on this you'll have to tell me the exact make and model of the subs and amp, then I can provide you a wiring diagram that will show how to wire them in phase.

the 2nd reason is your box may have leaks or be of poor quality.  if you put 2 subs in a box that has busted wood holes and stuff like that they're going to sound like crap, point blank.

if your box is very solid and built well, and you're sure there are no holes or leaks then it's probably a phasing problem.  so let me know the make and models of your equip, and I'll try to tell you how to check the wiring.

good luck!

QUESTION: great info thanks i really do not know the actual subs info i bought them about 3 years ago but i believe that they are 400 watts each then my amp is a Rockford Fosgate P4002 2CH , maybe i need a mpre powerful amp?
my box is brand new no holes.

Answer
nah. 400 watts is plenty to put bump in your trunk.

ok, so if your box is brand new with no leaks (I'm not talking port holes, I'm talking leaks, like where the wires come out, the seal around the subs to the box, etc)

I'd bet you have a phasing problem.  thanks for telling me the model of the amp but without knowing the model of the subs I cant just give you an exact diagram and know if the ohms are right and stuff.

lets do this,  first off, how many sets of wires are coming out of the box?  is there 2 sets (2 posatives and 2 negatives, which would be one for each sub?) or is there just one wire (one posative, one negative) coming out so its splitting once its inside the box to each sub?
this should be easy to tell if you tell me this, then I can give you an easy guide on how to tell/fix the phase.

looking forward to hearing back from you.
