Audio Systems: RCA grounding or shorting issues, rca cables, ground loop

Question
I did try it with the car running and the amp was fully tested and working great. What would be your next guess to try? Thank you for all your time and help.

-----Question-----
was trying to hook up a amp to my car and when i ground it to the car the amp turns on but i lose all sound to sub rear and front speakers, head unit still remains on, fully functional,so does the amp stay on. fuses to radio seem to be intact. when i disconnect amp from ground all sound comes back, also with amp disconnected if i were to rise the volume on head unit sound cuts off if put close to being loud. ive tried to hook up the ground wire directly from the amp to the battery still same result, my guess is the something in the car might be improperly grounded some thing Vidal, what could be the problem i would be grateful if someone could know whats going on thank you.

More info needed. Have the amp bench tested where you bought it. It may be blown. Is the battery low? Try it with the car running.

Answer
OK, that helps me out. I think you have a ground loop problem from the head unit to the amp. You should be able to hook up ONLY the power connections, and not the RCA cables, and still have sound from the stock speaker locations, correct?
Then, when you plug in the RCA cables, it must cut out then. If so, I would try a test set of RCA cables, run over the carpet, to see if the problem goes away. If it does, just throw the old RCA cables away, as they have been pinched or cut during the install. Let me know if you still have problems after this.
