Audio Systems: no sound, gage wire, rca outputs

Question
im installing a radio in a 2004 300m, after wiring the harness, plugged the new radio, i had no sound or nothing coming out the amp to the sub which was running from the rca outputs from the new radio. what could be the problem?

is there another way of hooking up an amp from the factory stereo without installing a new one?

Answer
You must check the voltage feeds to the amp; there should be two 12v lines. One will be the main feed and is always ON; it is a thick heavy gage wire to carry the main current.  The other will come from the ignition through the head unit which switches the amp on when the radio comes on. This is a small wire for carrying only the turn on signal.

Then, of course, double check the wiring from the sub amp output to the sub speaker.

Hooking up any amp would be okey as long as the amp gets the right 12 volt juice and the speakers are connected.  Some new Chrysler products have strange wiring and using the existing car wiring can be difficult.  You may have to run your own copper.

PS: If there is no audio coming from the head unit, double check the outputs making sure they are not inputs!
