Audio Systems: 97 Chrysler LHS aftermarket radio installation, 97 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
 Hey Mark,

Trying to install a new aftermarket JVC in place of an OEM premium audio system in a 97" Chrysler LHS.

OEM radio works fine, Daughter just wants a CD player.
Have proper adapter harness's.

Once installed, no sound from OEM speakers but if we hook up 4 speakers directly to the JVC radio all work fine.

It appears we need to run all new wires to all 4 speakers and bypass all OEM speaker wires.

Our question is: What is in line in the OEM speaker wires between the radio and the speakers that keeps the JVC signals from reaching the speakers?

This has been a real head scratcher

Any help appreciated.

Answer
Most premium systems have an amplifier hidden in the car somewhere. the speaker wires dont actually go to the speakers, they go to the amp, and then to the speakers, that's why you're getting nothing, cuz the amp doesnt turn on automatically. you will have to trigger it to turn on.
alot of times there is a little "clip" that attached to the back of the factory radio and there's no place to put it on the new one so you probably just let it hang, this is what triggers the amp to turn on.  This document is for a lebaron but it should be similar:

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/DCP/PDF/327021.pdf

See the bottom of page 5, it shows how to reconnect the clip to the ground wire of the cd player.  it also shows (if you have the infinity system) that there is a white wire in the harness that may trigger the amp as well that you can connect to the blue wire of your new stereo.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything else!
