-----Question-----
Hi Kelly, I'm finishing my basement and would like to rewire for surround sound etc.  I'd like to possible hook up my TV to separate speakers say in the ceiling etc. Is it best to have the TV and Stereo together and speakers say in the ceiling?  I don't quit know where to run my wiring and I'd like to get started on this because it's hanging me up.  Also is there any particular wiring for audio I should use?  Thanx for any help or additional ideas.

Surround sound speakers come in many forms. Best to run more wires than you need, allowing you to upgrade later. Do you have a surround sound receiver yet? If not you can buy full 7.1 systems very cheap these days, and the instructions included are invaluable. Short answer; run any cheap wire pair you want for each speaker. The brown "zip" cord you can buy at the hardware store for replacing power cords is super cheap, and works just as good as the most expensive speaker wire. Run two pair to the back of the room, two pair to the sides, opposite the sitting area, and one pair to your subwoofer location. Even if you don't use them now, you may later, and they are easy to hide. I recommend installing junction boxes and covers also.

Answer
Zip cord works just fine. Your music doesn't care how much the copper wire costs, lol
Do not put speakers in the ceiling unless you want it to sound like a cheap PA system in a hospital or office. Your surround processor cannot compensate for the speakers being off-axis.
