Audio Systems: 1996 lincoln town car, lincoln town car, factory radio

I want to put an after market stereo in my 1996 town car but it has a factory amp, so I would have to get it rewired to bypass the amp. What are all the components needed to accomplish this so I can avoid spending $200+ at an audio shop

you dont nessesarilly have to bypass it.  alot of times, the trick is just triggering it to turn on and then you can make use of it.  If you still have the old factory radio its pretty easy to tell how this is done with the use of a meter.  do you have a meter and the old working radio?
