Audio Systems: Simple questions...Equalizer and RCA jacks, chevelle ss 396, 1967 chevelle ss 396

Question
Thanks great advice and also you gave me a good idea... I think.

How about 2 equalizers (same models) to run the front and rear speakers. Three amps (front, rear sub).

That way, as you point out, I can control the front ( highs), the rear (mids) and the subs (low) with no problems.

This way I won't be fighting (hopefully) the rear speakers against the front speakers.

I don't know if I told you but this system is going into a 1967 Chevelle SS 396.

Thanks,

Bob from San Diego

-----Question-----
I am restoring a 1967 Chevelle. Bought a Custom Autosound USA-6 radio to start. First question... Where do I place a equalizer in this system. I want to include the radio, two amps (4 speakers and sub woofer) and CD changer. Is it placed in line after the radio but before the amps? Second question...The Custom Autosound radio has 4 pre amp outputs ( l/r front, l/r rear)...but the equalizer only has 2 inputs. Do I need a RCA y - connector to merge the channels? Also would I merge the left(white) and right(red) or the opposite which is front and rear (opposite colors). I hope this all makes sense.

yes you put the eq in between the cd player and amplifiers.  as for the difference between the 2 channel and 4 channel. never use Y adapters to merge outputs. only use them to split outputs.  You need to use EITHER the front left and rights OR the rear left and rights on the cd player.  send them directly into the EQ then AFTER the EQ split the left and right with 2 sets of Y adapters.  so your right turns into 2 rights (one for front, one for rear. and your left turns into 2 lefts, (one for front one for rear).  from then on your cd player's fade control (front to rear) will not work so just leave it in the center, use your amplfier's gain knobs to set the front to rear volume ratio and leave it alone once set.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Answer
The multiple amps is a good idea, you can do it with 2 amps though,  get a 4 channel amp for the 4 door speakers and a mono or 2 channel for the subs.  you'll still have just as many features and adjustments, it will just be cheaper and take up less space.  I like the power acoustik gothic series amps for a good bang for the buck.  there's better stuff out there but not for how inexpensive these are.  Check out the OV4-800 for the door speakers, as for an amp for the subs the amp needs to be matched to it, so let me know what sub you have/getting and I'll help with that too.
as for the EQs, I would skip it at least for now.  as long as you get good speakers you shouldnt need them.  beleve it or not most eqs dont really have enough bands to correct poor speaker responce and in a system where you have control over the gains between subs and mids its even less nessary.  If you get a good set of component speakers up front like the polk DB 6500s you definatly shouldnt need an EQ. save the money on the EQs and get the polk DBs, you'll be happy you did.
Also if you get the OV4-800, it has preamp outputs, so you wont need Y adapters. you just plug your 4 channels from the cd player straight into the 4 channel inputs on this amp, then the subwoofer amp plugs into the outputs on this amp (so it's like a chain, cd player to 1st amp, 1st amp to 2nd amp)
so what subs are you looking at?
