Audio Systems: Upgrading Car Stereo, car stereos, acura integra

Question
I just purchased a 1994 Acura Integra. The previous owner had installed 4 6x9s, 2 tweeters, and 2 12" subs in the trunk. The deck is a Pioneer, but since I'm a novice to the world of car stereos, I wouldn't even begin to know where to locate the model of the deck. My big problem with the deck is that there's no lighting, so I cannot see anything on the deck once it gets dark outside. I'd like to upgrade the deck, but I'd like to get your recommendation for a brand/model. I've heard Pioneers are great, but I'm not sure about any recent advancements. I'm just looking for a single cd deck, iPod compatible would be nice but not a requirement. What do you suggest?

Answer
I would try removeing the deck and looking for an orange wire coming off it.  Disconnect this orange wire and see if that makes the lights come on.  that wire is a sensor that measures the voltage coming from your dimmer in the car and adjusts the screen brightness acordingly.  but if any part of it's broken the light may go out, but with the wire disconnected its suppose to default to full brightness.  if that doesnt help the backlight may just be burned out.  it happens.
I'm partial to Alpine.  I've installed several and they work great.  I have a few clarions and they were decent.  I dont like Blaupunkt at all so I'd stay away from them.
Go go www.crutchfield.com and fill out the "find what fits my car" they will show you all the recievers that are known to fit your car and if you get the reciever from them (highly recomended) they will give you everything you need to do the job for free, dash kit, wiring, printed photos and step by step instructions of how to do it, even tools if your car requires special tools to remove the old unit, all free!
Good luck!
