Audio Systems: Car stereo replacement, chrysler town and country, chrysler service

Question
My husband bought me a new car radio/CD player for Christmas, last Christmas, and he tried to put it in and wasn't able to get it to work. When he put back in the old one, the power comes on for a few seconds and then shuts off. We have a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country. The old radio is the factory isssued kind. The new one is a Panasonic. Is there some kind of anti-theft or electrical safety button that needs to be reset in order to get power to the radio? I am so tired of listening to a $5 transistor radio in my car. Please help!

Answer
sounds like it could possibly be a security thing, best way to find that out for sure and get the proper key sequence to make it work again is to call the service dept. of your local chrysler dealer. you will need to provide proof of ownership to do this.if there is no anti theft circuitry, you more than likely burned a 'fusible link', which is a section of wire, normally somewhere in the engine compartment, that is of a specific 'gauge' or size which is designed to burn out incase of wiring short or wrong hookup so a fire doesn't start, or wiring in an inaccessable place not fail. if it's that, you'll need a chrysler service manual with wiring diagrams to find it, or seek a professional to look it over and fix it. good luck.....
