Audio Systems: Sound from JVC receiver, left hand corner, control receiver

Question
Hi. I have a JVC RX-6030VBK/RX-6032VSL audio/video control receiver and I'm having problems with the sound. No sound comes out of any of the speakers unless the TV sound is on, and even then it's really staticy (sp?) and not very loud. I have the subwoofer and 5 speakers plugged in and I've checked and re-checked the connections and they seem fine (but I have no idea what I'm really doing, so...) The TV is connected to it by the red and black cables (TV sound in right and left) and the DVD player is connected to it by the blue digital in cable/cord. I don't know if it has to do with the wiring or the programming (when I try to press digital or analog audio no sound or static is heard at all). I hope this isn't too vague, as I really have no idea what's going on at all, and I have had others look at it to no avail. Any and all help would be great!

Answer
You did not reveal to me the tv model number.  We need to have a fixed audio output to feed the receiver.  Does it have  that?

Let me suggest you to take a look at the Compusa site for hookups:

http://www.compusa.com/specials/promos/entertainment/default.asp

Look at the bottom left hand corner for a link that best fits your setup.  They are nice color pdfs and can show you how to work everything.

Just remember:  IN means a signal is going into that spigot.  OUT means a signal is coming out of that spigot.  For audio  (red and white cables) you must come OUT of the tv and IN to an audio input on your receiver.  For video, you can take the signal directly into the tv; you don't have to pass it through the control receiver unless you want to.

Give this a try and let me know if you get stumped.
