Audio Systems: Intermittent Power Issues, fuse box, sony receiver

Question
I recently installed a Sony receiver in my Ford truck and the power to the unit
has been intermittent.  I have checked and rechecked all wiring connections.
The power to the unit tends to shut off when I am braking, but come back on when
I accelerate.  The stereo also does not lose memory as it intermittently powers
on and off.  Should I return the unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Ross.
You are gona have to pull the unit agin.
The problem lies in the accessory or ignition wire connection, as the perm 12v is ok as it keeps memory.
Try disconnecting the acc’ wire from the car connection and connecting it together with the live wire.
If it stays the same and cuts out you have a radio problem or loose earth, if not and it stays on then it is your acc’ feed is at fault, maybe something loose in the truck’s wiring or fuse box that moves when you brake. (No, I'm not going to suggest you don't use the brakes, :-)  )

Note;
One fault that pops up all too often is “BIG BUCH OF KEYS SYNDROME”, big bunch in the ignition lock swinging about, more so when you brake, and it moves the ignition lock enough to move it off position and eventfully the lock tumbler will fail, so if that’s the case reduce the number of keys and check the tumbler. (For security purposes you should never have ALL your keys on one bunch anyway)

All the best, Peter
p.s. please leave feedback so I know how I am doing, Peter
