Audio Systems: car Stereo Problem, antenna wire, french cars

Hello,
         When I connect my car stereo to the car, it switches on
fine. But when I put it on cd player mode, it starts fuzzing then
just cuts out, I know it is not due to the stereo because I tried it
in someone else's car and it works fine. There must be a lack of
power somewhere, is there an extra cable I can buy to give it
more power, to stop it from cutting out.

Without more to go on, i.e. make, model of unit, car? It's a bit
difficult, so I can only reply in general terms, sorry.

NO, you cant get a cable to supply more power, 12v is all you
got and 12v is all you get and the head unit only takes a
MAXIMUM of 10amps anyway flat out on a 4 x 50 unit.
Only use the correct harness for the head unit, preferebly with
the correct adaptor cable for the car, most problems arise when
owners chop off the connectors and connect wire to wire.

Check the wiring,
12v permanent (yellow or orange)
12v acc/ign (red)
12v OUT when on (Blue)
and earth (black)

Sometimes there could also be a lighting wire (green or grey),
phone mute wire (white)
and an amp/antenna wire (blue/white)
(Colours are normal for most major makes, Pioneer, Kenwood,
JVC, Sony, etc.)

Hope that helps but in the end it's down to you being diligent
and making sure it is hooked up correctly and it should work.

'98 Pug 206 had weired wiring, (well french cars in general, I know I had two Citroens), lotsa wires the same colour doing different jobs, seems they loved grey, green yellow and brown so be very carefull which one you connect to, still sounds like a wiring fault rather than a HU problem so double and triple check with a meter or a 12v probe you have the right connection, pay particular attention to a good earth and if need be run another one from radio body to car/dash frame, ONLY use the makers wiring fitted in the car for the radio rather than extra wires but if you do want to run a live directly take it from the OUTPUT side of a fuse in the fuse box NOT directly from the battery and NEVER UNFUSED
