Audio Systems: car radio installation, radio installation, car radio

Question
I have a 86 transam the radio in it is the original, it skips, and goes out and does not stay tuned to a station, sometimes it works and sometimes not.I have  another that is the same make and model for it and I would like to try to change it myself,  but I dont know exactly what I should do first, do I disconnect the battery before I begin. I dont want to get electricuted...I am a hands on person and dont mind doing things myself...If possible..thank you in advance Ernesto.

hi:
there is only 12 volts in the car nothing is going to happend to you  just change the radios the plastic trim around the radio comes out is been hold by 4 clips then you remove 4 screws and there is 4 plugs in the back and the antenna
