Audio Systems: E-31 error message on CD changer, gm bose, pontiac grand prix

Question
I have the GM/Bose stereo in my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. It has the 12-Disc CD changer mounted in the trunk. When I try to use the CD changer it gives me an "E-31" error message and does not play the CD. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I'd greatly appreciate any help you can offer me. Thanks, John

Answer
Errors usually being when there is a problem with the unit.  Try disconnecting the changer with the battery disconnected.  Reconnect the battery, still without the changer, and turn the radio on and make sure it is functioning properly.  If all is well, then disconnect the battery again, reconnect the changer, and reconnect the battery.  This is basically a reset procedure that may or may not work.  Sometimes "rebooting" the changer will allow things to re-align and begin to work properly again.  If not I would consult a Pontiac dealer to see about having it replaced.
