Audio Systems: stuck cd in 4 disc changer, chrysler sebring, disc changer

Question
i have a cd stuck in the first disc slot. i have a 2001 chrysler sebring. the system is just a cd player and radio. when i turn the radio off or on, i can hear the cd ticking. then the display screen says no disc. i am having a hard time finding a place here in chicago that will fix the problem because it's the system that came with the car. do you think i can fix the problem myself or do i need to go to an professional?

Answer
It is probably a bad controller IC; or could be a damaged mechanism.

There are a few possibilities.

ONE:  Go to
http://www.oemautosound.com/c-55-chrysler-cd-changer.aspx

where you will see a few plug and play add-on changers.  These mostly mount in the trunk and can replace the one that isn't working.

TWO:  Go to

www.crutchfield.com

and select replacement radio/cd player and replace the whole unit.

THREE: Go to a radio installer/repair shop and get their opinion on repair.  I think you will find the repair equal or more than a new unit.

It will take an experienced technician to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair this kind of problem, for sure.

Hope this helps.
