Audio Systems: car cd player.., sony cdx m730, compact disc player

Question
i have had a sony cdx-m730 am/fm compact disc player for a few years now.  However recently, the CD that was inserted would not come out..  the player in itself would not work.  any suggestions/ solutions to fix this cd player or should it be discarded?

Answer
Any cd player over a couple of years age is obsolete.

CD players as a general rule are not a repair item because the repair cost is always greater than a new player (except in very rare circumstances).

If the unit has aux input, just buy a new cd player ($9.99 and up) and plug it into the aux input and away you go.  SORRY, I just pulled the manual for this model and it does not have an aux input, or at least it is not listed on the specification sheets.  But, sometimes they have one anyway, so look on the back for it.

Also, page 25 of your owners manual has a troubleshooting guide that may be helpful.

This is a very compact player and has some sophisticated features, but, still it is getting rather old, so you may have a sentimental attachment to it. If so, the cost of repair may be $100 or more - if they can get parts for it.

When a cd does not eject it is usually a bad servo motor or servo control IC controller that needs replaced.

Sometimes it is as simple as a bad connection internally.  Give the set a smack gently with your hand or fist to see if it wakes up the eject function...

Good Luck,
