Audio Systems: Speaker & amp problem, dual voice coils, amp fuses

Question
I have recently bought 2 dual 12 inch speakers in a factory box with a 1000 watt xplod amp and a dual stereo system...A friend and I hooked it up by ourselves not really a problem...but after a while I noticed that my speakers had stopped working not becuase they were "blown" but I had found out that something had been shorting out the fuses..I tryed to replace the fuses first with 30 amp then with 40 amp fuses..but every time that I tryed to put one of the fuses in the fuse connection it sparked and blew the fuse before I could get it in...SO I would please appreciate it if you could help me out and help explain what my problem is...thank you

Answer
I need to know the exact model numbers for the speakers and amp in order to give you a specific answer.

BUT:  If the speakers were wired in parallel and they had a low impedance they may be loading down the amp too much and cause it to go.

AND:  Were the fuses in the speaker boxes or in line with the amp?

IF they were amp fuses the outputs may be shorted out and taking out the fuse (in which case the power outputs will need to be replaced - not cheap to do!).

AND: If the speakers have dual voice coils, just how did you hook them up?  Again, if not hooked up properly they can overload the amp and cause the big burnout.

SO:  Let me know the make and model of the speakers and amp AND how you hooked up the speakers.  Then I can give you a pretty detailed overview of what went wrong and how to crank it up again.

See ya,
