Question -
HI Mark, my question is a little odd. I have right now in my car a kenwwood KRC 609 cassette radio.  My battery went dead the other day and after a jump to get it running I realized my stereo had no sound from the tuner or the 10 CD changer in the trunk or cassette but the screen on the unit is saying everything is playing and working fine. Yes, I reset the unit and pushed the att button with no change. I also checked both power lines in and they have juice. Now the strangest part of this is I installed this radio after the same thing happend to my sony XR-CA300 screen was reading like everything was great but not a peep in the speakers. All speakers where checked and are working fine. I 'm thinking the car is haunted this has never happend to me in all the 40 yrs I've been playing with cars. Please tell me you have an idea about what is going on.
         Thanks,
         Bob C.

the only thing I can think of is the surge from jumpstarting the car is blowing the amplifier portion of the stereo.  it is strange that it happened on 2 different models (even manufactureres) but its the only thing I can think of  I blew out an amplifier once by connecting its power connector while the "remote" wire was connected and jumpstarting a car is a similar scenario power wise.
Sorry I dont have much but some slightly similar experiences.
Good luck!

Answer
Not really, you'd have to know alot about electronics and own a good meter, preferably an osciliscope and have good soldering capabilities. etc.  I wouldnt be much help here on that one.  Sending it somewhere to get fixed would cost alot.  I'm just of the mindset that if it's broke; replace it.
I certainly would test the living heck out of it before replacing it.  If you have a separate speaker or can take one out of a door I would try hooking it DIRECTLY to a set of the speaker wires on the cd player just to see what happens there.  I would also leave the cd player completely unpluged for a while and plug it back in to see if it "resets".
Good luck!
