Audio Systems: Tv/Dvd compomnent video prolbem, magavox, y cb cr

Question
Hello I recently discovered that my 20in magavox sdtv, that I had
for about a year, has component inputs for for my coby 515 dvd
player. So I bought some $20 AR component cables. Once I
plugged them in I changed my TV channel to YUV and I changed
my dvd player from svideo to y,cr,cb but left it on interlaced
instead of progressive (since I dont have HD).I did what I was so
suppose to do by the book, everything in the correct colored inputs
but my picture while sharp came out too red.Now I did notice that
on the tv, the inputs were y,cb,cr while my dvd the inputs were
y,pb,cr. Does that make a difference? If so what can I do? If not
then what went wrong? Thank You

Answer
You should be able to select a different setting on either the tv or the dvd so they are compatible component signals.

See the above discussion for learning that one is for component in the digital format and one for the analog format.

Normally, dvd players have the digital component output because everything is in digital anyway.  But tvs must be specified as to digital component.

So, you must check the specifications carefully on each set.

Now, actually, the difference in picture quality on a 20in set between S and component is probably not noticable. So, I would not encourage you to purchase a converter - which may cost around $100.  Of course, check first if the either set has component selection.

I checked a couple of Coby player manuals - not knowing what model you have - and it says you can set it for YUV outputs - which is the analog version.  So, do a hard reset and then  go to the OSD and see if you have a setting for YUV again.  That might solve your problem.

Best wishes,

PS: Hard reset on the Coby is unplug the power cord for 30 minutes, then power it up again.
