Audio Systems: Audi Bose CD/Radio problems, radio problems, audi dealer

Question
Hi, The CD changer will not accept the cartridge box. It appears the little stud inside the changer will not move into the locking position. Pushing the cartridge box down does not engage it, box springs back up. Is there a repair I can do or must I replace the unit? Also, AM reception is worst of any car. FM is fine. What do I check? Antenna is small Hirschmann aluminum type mounted on roof. Dealer says this will take "hours" of diagnostics. Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Answer
Your options on the changer are to have it repaired or replace it. I would replace it.
Hours of diagnostics? That sounds like a great reason to go to a local professional mobile audio store instead of the Audi Dealer. While the antenna may lack performance in the AM bands, there is likely an antenna trim pot in the unit for the AM reciever. Any reputable audio store can help you with adjusting it [if it has one]. Depending on the year, it may be time to upgrade the entire system to something a little more mainstream.

Sincerely,
