Audio Systems: broken coaxil needle in antenna jack, antenna cable, lock nuts

Question
Thanks for your help. We have tried super glue, but will try again. We don't mind getting a new jack, but how do we get the old one out? Does it unscrew? We have tried, but it doesn't budge.  Thanks.

Question -
We have an older Toshiba TV. No, this isn't a TV repair question. We would just like to know how to get a broken needle out of our antenna jack.

Answer -
Dear Ryan,

I take it the "broken needle" is the center lead of a coaxial antenna cable. These are made of copper, so a magnet is out of the question.

The problem is that the pinholes into which the center leads are inserted are made to be snug--i.e., to firmly hold the lead. I suggest a dab of super glue at the end of a solid wire of similar, ideally slightly smaller diameter. It should weld to the broken lead and allow you to VERY GENTLY pull it free. The sleeve is likely made of some urethane-based material to which the super glue won't adhere. If that fails, I'd replace the antenna jack. You can get the parts for that at Radio Shack. Helps to be handy with a soldering iron.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin

Answer
Dear Ryan,

Okay, now this IS a TV repair question, but since I'm halfway in...

You'll need to remove the entire rear panel to the set and locate the antenna jack from the inside. It should be secured by lock nuts from both the inside and outside. Unscrew those, label and disconnect the wire leads, remove and discard the old jack, install the replacement jack, and solder the leads to the new jack.

This should do it.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
