Audio Systems: replace/repair jeep stereo amp, jeep grand cherokee, stereo tape player

Question
Hello and thanks for answering. I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an infinity gold stereo/ tape player. The sound has suddenly stopped although the radio controls, lights, presets, and tape player seem to function. I've checked the fuses and unhooked and reset the battery ( to see if it might be locked up) with no results. It's unlikely that all 4 speakers would go out at once. I think that the amp is shot. It has a separate amp under the back seat with fairly complicated electrical connections. I could remove or replace the amp myself if I could find an amp with the same connections, or get it repaired. Is this possible,  fairly easy, and reasonable in price – or not. How would I go about this, what numbers off the equip might I need, and where might I go to get the right amp?                     Thanks,  Chuck R

Answer
Check all the fuses first, the amp will be separately fused, possibly in the Right kick panel, or underhood fuse boxes.
If the amp is shot, you should be able to get one on ebay cheap, or at a salvage yard. Don't bother repairing it, they are a cheap amp, 12 years old, and not worth the money. Lots have been removed, and/or bypassed. Your local MECP certified shop could even just bypass it and install a new aftermarket deck with more watts output than the amp had.
