Audio Systems: Sony FM Stereo Receiver, amplifier section, convenience outlets

Question
Hi there

I think I have short circuited the receiver.  How do I elimiate the flashing protector sign.  It says in the troubleshooting to turn receiver off, eliminate short circuit and turn receiver back on.  The model number is STR-DE535

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Answer
Dear Peter,

Presumably you've done what the manual suggested, and the "protection" is still engaged.

You may or may not have short circuited the receiver. More likely, you've overheated it, which would engage the receiver's internal thermal protection circuits. First, turn the unit completely off *and* unplug it from its power source. Wait a few minutes and plug it back in and power it up. You should be okay.

To avoid engaging the thermal protection circuits, make sure that the unit is well ventilated when it's running. If your cabinet is difficult to ventilate, get a small fan at Radio Shack and plug it into one of the switched convenience outlets on the rear of the receiver. This way the fan will operate every time you turn the receiver on.

Further, try not to play music and/or movies at ear splitting volumes for too long. This will also cause the amplifier section of the receiver to overheat.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
