Audio Systems: Denon AVR 1706 receiver, full blast, volume control

Question
My wife fell asleep on the remote and now there is no volume control- other than quiet and full blast. She obviously pressed a button, or a combination thereof, and now the thing is useless.

Also, the volume display numbers go backwards- the smaller the number, the higher the volume. Not being previously familiar with Denon, I don't know if this is normal for them. Somehow I doubt it.

I am totally baffled. Nothing has worked. Any help you can offer / suggest will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Laurence

Answer
Dear Laurence,

Something I've found that works almost every time: remove the batteries and put new ones in. Make sure you leave the batteries out long enough for the remote to lose its "programming", in which case it will default to the factory presets.

If that doesn't work, you can get a universal remote at one of the big boxes (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.) and program it to respond to Denon products. You can also get a replacement remote from Denon. You can find a list of parts suppliers at www.usa.denon.com.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
