Audio Systems: Sound, but no picture, phillips magnavox tv, horizontal bar

I have a 6 year old Phillips Magnavox TV.  Worked fine until 2 days ago when the screen went black except for a white horizontal bar that moves up and down the screen randomly.  Sound still works, and you can still change the channel perfectly and hear everything.  Any advice before calling a repairman?  Or should I just start shopping for a new one?

Like my allexperts lead sez, I'm not a TV repairman. However, an in-the-shop diagnosis will cost you in the range of $40-50. A new TV is $300 minimum (presuming flat screen and analog). It may be worth the money to find out if the picture tube is blown or there's just a 25-cent circuit acting up.
