Audio Systems: Sony 5.1 receiver overheated, sony receivers, wall receptacle

Question
I have a 3-4 year old Sony 5.1 receiver.  A picture was put flat on top of it during use and it clearly overheated. I unplugged everything from the back and plugged it in you hear a switch/relay noise, but no power.  I can't find a fuse or switch does Sony have some kind of heat protection switch?

Thanks!

Answer
Dear Keith,

Virtually all Sony receivers made over the last 10+ years have thermal protection circuits. They are not user-switchable. Try the following: unplug the unit from the wall receptacle and wait a few minutes. Then plug it back in (unclear from your question if you did this in addition to unplugging the ancillary components). If it still doesn't power up, there is damage somewhere in the power supply chain (transformer, a capacitor, etc.), and the unit will require servicing by a qualified repair technician.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,

Kevin
