Audio Systems: Improving Factory Radio With a Factory Amp, gm radios, pontiac montana

Question
Hi, I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana with a AM/FM/CD/Cassette RDS radio. The radio seems very under powered and I'd like to improve this by adding a amp. The radio looks almost exactly like a Monsoon radio except it doesn't same "Monsoon" on the cassett door, it says "Auto Reverse". Can I install a factory Monsoon amp to this radio. I would use a after market amp but I have steering controls and it is the type of radio that does features through the cars computer. Thank You.

Answer
Hi Jim!
It's not an easy task but can be done, the hardest part is to re-wire the speakers to the new amp (i would opt for an aftermarket one here, since it is easy to figure out the wiring)use high to low adapters on the radio outputs to feed the amp inputs. CAUTION! some newer GM radios use the amp for the door chime if the amp is off it will not sound but if it is on it will be quite loud!
NOTE: There is modules to keep all the functions in any aftermarket radio, including steering controls and door chime.
