Audio Systems: Standby current draw of Delco radio, chevy conversion van, delco radio

Question
My father in law has a 1995 chevy conversion van. He only uses the van once every 3 weeks. In the past 1 1/2 months he has replaced the battery twice. Both times the batteries were drained beyond recovery. With another known good battery I run a amperage test to see where the draw was coming from. After checking the system it looks like the problem is coming from the radio. The standby current(key not in ignition and no other loads present) is approx .260 amps, to me this seems a bit too high. With the radio totally disconnected the current draw is about .006 amps. Do you know what the standby current should be for the Delco radio with electronic clock and memory backup. Any feedback would but appreciated

Answer
Hi Bryan!
You're right, the consumption is a little high wich would not be noticed if the van where used everyday, The normal consumption should be around .100A or .150A maximum that is common problem with some delco models, sadly it is hard to get it fixed since it requires to change many parts(filters & processor)but an easy trick is to swap the ignition and the backup wire, some models will keep the clock and presets but others will not, that can be an inconvenience but if you want something simple and cheap that works, just give it a try.
