Audio Systems: tv and vcr recording, vcr head, time warner cable

Question
I have time warner cable which plugs into the vcr.  From the vcr to the tv I have a cable.  No problem playing vcr movies.  However, when I go to record a movie off the tv, it is very poor reception and sound.  I have autoprogramed and tried switching the cables.  Same results.

Answer
Dear James,

Because the cable runs through the VCR, you're taping directly from the cable. There are two protocols for taping: (1) the VCR is set to channel 3 or 4 or (2) the VCR is set to whatever TV channel you're taping from. Double check your manual for the applicable protocol.

After time tape heads get dirty from the oxide on the tapes. Get a VCR head cleaner at Best Buy/Circuit City and run it through a few times. Both the sound and picture quality should improve.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
