Audio Systems: Stereo speakers, jbl speakers, speaker switch

Question
What could be the cause of a very noticeable buzz or hum in the speaker system?  Exists whether playing CDs, tapes, or radio.  It satrts as soon as the system is turned on.  Have a Sony STR AV920 Audio/Video controller with other Sony equip tape, cd, etc) and JBL speakers.  Connections are of the spring type where the bare wire is inserted into the spring holder.

Is it both speakers? If so, you have something wrong in the output section of your receiver. If it's only in one speaker, switch the speakers. If the the buzz comes from the same speaker, it's the speaker. If the buzz comes from the same channel, it's the receiver.

Once you've narrowed down the issue. Recheck all your connections. If they're solid and the buzz persists, take the guilty party in to a qualified repair service for a look-see.
