Audio Systems: Delco CD/Stero (Chevy 1998 Blazer), factory speakers, intermittent problems

Question
Hi Jerry,

We have a Delco CD/Stero in the blazer.  Only 1 out of the six speakers work.  "Sometimes" 3 work.  Very strange that when the car sits in the sun more speakers will work.  I am not convinced it is the speakers...sometimes I can just be driving and more speakers will work.  How do I check to see if it is the speakers vs. the stero head unit?  Thanks for you help and suggestions.

Answer
98 blazer? In dash Delco and factory speakers? This is a very common problem.
It is likely both. The Delco head unit is notorious for developing intermittent problems. The speakers are simply shot from heat, sunlight, as well as normal wear and tear.

You can buy a brand new in-dash SINGLE disk cd player that plays mp3 and reads CD-R cd's (up to 256 tunes per cd!)... with mounting kit and wiring harness adaptor (no need to cut vehicle wires) at walmart starting at about $100.00 USD. You cant come close to that amount of listening time with normal
cd's [even using 15 or 20 of them].
I would rewire it from the ground up.. but at least use new speaker wires and speakers with the new head unit.
I zealous yet careful novice could do this upgrade.
