Audio Systems: intermittent sound from relatively new car radio, intermittent sound, wire connections

Question
Hi, I had my car radio replaced this year and after the first several months it developed a problem. Power appears to be on, but audio is only intermittent. It might work for a few minutes or only one syllable. Sound from both speakers fades out quickly or just stops. It doesn't matter how long the radio is on or what the temperature is. The CD player has the same problem. It's pretty much all day, everyday...Can you give me *any* idea what this indicates? Um, the car is a 1988 Honda Civic, if that helps at all... Thank you.

Answer
Stacy,

well there are a few things that can cause this .. the most common are the cd player itself by which a replacement is needed, the wiring * bad connections, loose connections, bare wires ect..* since all the speakers are effected it doesnt seem to be a speaker problem... pull your unit out of the dash and check the wiring, i hope the installer used an adapter kit but if not just make sure all the connections are secure and insulated good with electrical tape... keep the unit out of the dash and connected and turn on , see if squeezing the speaker wire connections makes any difference in sound, give the others a wiggle to check for variations.. if nothing happens during this i would replace the CD unit with a good aftermarket one that should take care of the problem.... hope this helps you out if you need anything else let me know

thanks
