Audio Systems: audio on a 1994 Nissan Maxima, family buisness, nissan maxima

Question
Last year my mothers stereo system started having problems starting with the rear left speaker distorting. Next the display went bad for a while and then came back then left. Afterwords the system called it quits and until about last week wasn't tampered with.

I removed the stock unit and tried hooking up an old Nissan stereo (unknown model) from his brothers wrecked car salvage (kept around the family buisness for years)

it didn't work either so we have decided the problem must be a fuse or wire so how do i go about figuring this out cause if my mom ditches this car i'd like to have it but no stereo would be a real bummer

Answer

You should test this stuff before you install it :)

Now that it is in, you will need to locate and use a switched 12 volt supply  (as well as constant 12v).
Use a 12 volt test light to do this. Try Radio Shack or an auto parts store.
The person that sells it to you can explain its' simple use.
Be sure to use a fuse near the 12v source to prevent problems.

The radio may still not work (if the radio is what is bad)..  best of luck.
