Audio Systems: i would like information., king size waterbed, pioneer sx

Question
hi, i wanted to know if you could help me find out some information on a stereo receiver. i payed 10 dollars for it from a friend of mine, but he has no documentation. im most interested in finding out the power output that it has. im betting you cant tell me much about it, because it is pretty old. but if you can give me a place where i might be able to, i'd greatly appreciate it. it is a Pioneer SX-203. very basic. no surround sound modes, and very little sound enhancment features. it has an S-bass option in addition to the 3 dials, bass, treble and balance. and no remote transmitter. so please do what you can for me.  i have another question. my stereo is limited to my bedroom, because i'm only 18 and i live with my parents. lets put it this way, my room is very small, but, when i got a chance to get a king size waterbed for free. i went right for it. so now i am very limited in space. my stereo, sits on my dresser, which is short, but very long, about 5 feet long. i am running two very old pioneer 4 way speakers. im told they are close to 27 years old, but still work flawless. they have a 12 inch carbon fiber woofer, and they really put out the lows. my problem is this, my reciever that i mentioned to you earlier, is on top of my right speaker, and my cd changer, (a middle aged sony 5 cd carousel) is on top of the left. my problem is this, i like to use those big woofers to their fullest, but my cd player skips with every bass hit. the changer is a strong running unit, and plays cds that i cant even get any brand new cd player to read at all! and it doesnt skip on any one of them, but the low frequencys make it skip. the only place i can put these components are on my dresser. i was wondering if there is anything i can maybe set either the speakers on, or the cd player on to dampen the vibrations. i know this is kind of a bizzare question, and ive never heard of anyone with the same problem as me. but it does become a bother when i cant listen to music the way i really want to, especially when the system is fully capable of it. so if you could please help me to the best of your abillity, i would be very much obliged. i look forward to hearing from you, thanks.

Answer
Dear Dave,

Yes, it is the bass vibrations that are causing your CD player to skip. The only way to remedy that is to take the CD player off the speaker. Short of doing that, there is one remedy you might try, but I can't guarantee that it will work: put a piece of 2"-3" thick masonry on top of the speaker and the CD player on top of that. The masonry just may absorb enough of the vibrations to stop the player from skipping. Then again it may not. You can find landscaping pavers and the like at hardware or garden supply stores.

I can find no information on the Pioneer SX-203. Judging from the number, I'd guess that it's 20-30 years old. Back then even the best Pioneer receivers put out no more than 35 watts per channel. But that's a pure guess.

Good luck. And thanks for choosing allexperts.com!

Kindest regards,
