Audio Systems: audio speakers - Technics SB-K23, budget constraints, undeserved death

Question
For years I've used Technics speakers(model SB-K23) with my now rather ancient audio equipment.  Soon I'll be moving to a much smaller place and am thinking of upgrading my audio equipment and, in particular, getting rid of these rather large speakers and getting smaller ones.   What do you think of the SB K23 speakers?  What would you recommend to replace them?

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Juanie,

May I plead the 5th on the Technics speakers? IMHO, with the exception of a stateside-engineered and built Sony from some years back (it died a slow, horrible, and undeserved death), the Japanese are clueless when it comes to speaker manufacture. Shrill highs, bloated lows, wandering midrange. I could go on...

How small is your new space? It's tough to recommend a speaker when I don't know what kind of space you're talking about. Also, how much do you want to spend? You can do very well with PSB Alphas ($200 +/- pair; www.psbspeakers.com) for a very, very small space, say, 10x10. Or you could try PSB's Image B25 ($450/pair) for a space on the order of 15x15.

If you could give me some idea of room size and budget constraints, I can give you a better response.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards,

Kevin
