Mercedes: mercedes question, cont, check ebay, bitter cold winter

Question
Sorry, I just asked the question about the car that will not shut off.   I have a 1987 300SDL.   It is a great car, and since it is a diesel and we have had a bitter cold winter I put a light bulb under the hood and am fearful I shorted something out that caused this.   Also, the heater/ ac blower just stopped working, but is not related to this.   What should I look for as a possible fix for this before assuming the blower motor has gone bad?   Thanks, Ron.

Answer
Thats Better;-))
Because diesels have not ignition so to speak. It must have the air stopped to kill the combustion. I would look for blown fuses first.
I would expect that there is a vacuum solenoid that is controlled through the switch. It should not be too hard to replace the module once you locate it. Just remember to disconnect the negative battery lead before pulling any circuits.
I would check with the parts house tell them what you are looking for and purchase the unit with the understanding that it can be returned if not used.
You may even be able to get the parts guys to pull the codes and they will help troubleshoot the issue.
By looking at the replacement part, you should be able to locate  a similar part that is not working.

True, if you had a high wattage bulb and it lay against a wiring harness then it could have become hot enough to melt some of the insulation off and short the wires.

I would begin by getting a repair manual, preferably a shop manual. Check Ebay, that is where I purchased my manuals.
You could also sign up for www.benzworld.org/forums. It has been an invaluable resource for me in locating information on 430sel.
I had a guy send me the digital files for all the electrical at no charge.

The heater blower may be not working because there is not not water going to the the heater core.
Check to see if your vehicle has a monovalve.
This valve stopped working on my car and that keep the climate control from working.
It is a multiport port water valve in the firewall well on my car. If you have one it may be there as well.
It has an electrically controlled plunger to regulate the amount of water flowning to the heater core.
Unless hot water reached the core to tell the climate control you want warm air the blower will not come up. This keeps you from betting a blast of cold air before the hot water is ready in the heater.
Good Luck
