Audio Systems: Maxima Bose CD player, new lens, radio system

I have a '96 Maxima with a factory installed Bose CD/Tape/radio system.  The CD player sounded distorted, so I put a new lens cleaning disk into the unit.  The disk just turned and didn't go through the cleaning process, so I ejected it.  Since then, whenever I put a CD into the unit, I get an 'ERR' message then the CD ejects. How can I fix this?

Also, when the temperature falls (< 40 degrees), the LED (?) screen on the unit does not light up....after the car warms up, the screen then works.  What could be causing this? (This is just an annoyance.)

The problem may be due to defective connections inside the stereo. With the display going out when cold and then will work when the stereo warms up it points to defective connections. As for the CD unit any number of faults can set an error message. Having the service manual and the right tools for troubleshooting would help find the problem.
