Audio Systems: sticky radio buttons, stereo section, repair expertise

Question
I spilt some sprite on my radio and the buttons are now sticky.  When you push them, you have to break them loose, and then they often stick down.  Any way to remove the sticky stuff from behind the buttons?

While I understand that one can use contact cleaners and get this cleaned (and how to), my repair expertise in this category is limited to system design and settings consultation.
