Audio Systems: bose speakers and cd player, bose speakers, scratchy noise

Question
Hello Tom,
I have a 1996 infiniti I 30 and I have noticed problems with one of the speakers lately. One of the speakers that is mounted in door is making a distorted noise whenever I turn up the volume and the bass is turn all the way up. The sound is like a scratchy noise and it makes the bass sound horrible. Also im thinking about replacing my bose radio because it is having problems reading certain cd's.If I change my radio, can I still keep my old speakers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Junior,
Removing the factory stereo and installing an after market stereo will require some adapters to adapt the new stereo to the factory wiring and to interface the factory amp or speaker amp modules to the new stereo. Most high end Bose sound systems use an amp module that is mounted near each speaker. In many cases the amps will have failing capacitors on the boards causing all kinds of strange noises. have you tried using one of those wet type CD cleaner discs?
