Audio Systems: cd not playing/ejecting/error message, single cd player, laser assembly

Question
i have a ford focus on a 52 plate (sep 2002) with a factory fitted single cd player(6000cd series),unit type fd 600a.
about one month ago i went to use it and an error message appeared on the display,it read "cd error e11".initially i could not eject the cd but after pressing the ejct button a number of times it finally ejected.
has the motor gone and if so should i replace or repair.

Answer
Gary,
The error message is most likely coming up due to a very dirty/dusty lens in the laser pick up, or the pick up is weak or defective. If the laser lens is very dusty/dirty or if the lens has cigarette smoke on it, you will not be able to use a cleaning CD/disc to clean the lens because the laser has to SEE the disc before the motor will spin the CD to clean the lense. You may want to try using a Qtip dampened with rubbing alcohol only, and gently rub the lens in the laser pick up to clean it. Note, you will need to pull the stereo out of the dash and take off the top cover to gain access to the laser assembly.
