Audio Systems: amp drains battery overnight, pioneer 300, acoustic speakers

Question
I have a ford ranger with power acoustic speakers. i also have a 224(i believe) 4 channel amp hooked up to an old pioneer 300 watt 12'' sub. It plays great and fairly loud, but if i dont crank up my truck within about 24 hours, the battery goes dead.... this only happens when i have my amp wired... when i take out the fuse it gives me no trouble. why does the amp drain the battery when i turn everything off and is there a way to fix it? thanks, adam

Answer
Adam,
Use a 12 volt test lamp and make sure that the remote on terminal on the amp is not hot(12 volts) with the stereo turned off! If you have a volt meter that will also work to measure the remote on lead to see if any voltage is there with the stereo turned off. If you disconnect the remote lead and the battery still runs down over night, the large battery feed into the amp may have a high resistance short on it inside the amp?
